A Tax Accountant mind in my heart…
My life BEFORE,
I was born in the 1960’s, in the Caribbean Island of Haiti. I grew up in the small town of Delmas and was 5 when my family traveled to Africa for a 10-year long journey. My family eventually returned to their home country, and I settled down there until I graduate from High School in 1980.
Upon graduation, I decided to study Architecture and upon completion of my undergraduate studies in 1985, I received a full scholarship to pursue a master’s in architecture at FAMU in Tallahassee, Florida where I spent 2 years breathing the campus life and focusing my sore study on practice management with an emphasis on accounting and financial management targeted to Design Firms.
In 1997, I landed my first job in New Orleans, Louisiana in a minority Design Firm which launched my accounting career as I progressively worked in various titles as full charge bookkeeper, design accountant and project accountant. In 2007, unfortunately, I had to face the harsh reality of an economic crisis with millions of Americans living in the US at this time…losing a well-paying job.
My education and career path THEN,
SO, past 2007, NOW WAS THE TIME…Reassessing my career priority and vocation, I discover that I was missing something important in my “career calling” portfolio…Upon making a full inventory of my education, this is when I decided to go back to school with my mind focused on the field of Taxation and Accounting. In 2010, I started with the first prong of my 2-tiers program. And, in 2012, while back in school, I also decided to slowly launch my tax & accounting boutique with the principal goal of servicing Small Business Owners (SBOs) who are Self Employees, Independent Contractors, or Sole Proprietors. Opting for a self-describing business name “Tax Focus Accounting” and using a low-level fee structure, I knew that the success of my business would depend on filling well-established needs for small business owners who want to be able to thrive in their own businesses without facing bookkeeping or tax compliance hassles. My services is geared towards answering the call from the SBO community: organizing SBE books, planning for tax savings, minimizing tax liabilities during tax season would be my business motto. With the services offered, I feel SBOs are in a better position to monitor the success of their small businesses through meaningful financial reports and tax filings leading them to better decision-making process in the long run.
In 2016, I finally completed my 2-prongs curriculum after 6 years of campus study. It took me three years to complete my master’s degree in accounting at Keller Graduate School of Management, a subsidiary of DeVry University and I graduated with distinction and a GPA of 3.81 and it took me another three years to complete the second prong of my study in Taxation at NOVA Southeastern University finally graduating in 2016 with a Horatio Alger Scholar distinction and a GPA of 3.17.
